NATIONAL BROWN GLOVES
Boxing Championships

D-ROCKS GYM boxing team sent four students last weekend November 5th, 6th, and 7th to compete in the National Brown Gloves Boxing Championships in Dallas, Texas. Over 300 amateur boxers came out from all over the country. Boxers came from California, Chicago, Oklahoma, Louisana, and Arkansas.

Justin [J-ROCK] Krantz fighting out of Marshall for D-Rocks Gym won his first boxing match against Deshean Miller out of Savanah boxing club in the 13 to 14 year old division at 101 pounds. This was a real close match that could have gone either way. Krantz won the bout with a split decision moving on to the championship match.

Greg Gani, 9 years old fighting out of Marshall for D-Rocks Gym in the 60 pound bantam novice division for the championship title against Isiah Velancia .This match was a joy to watch Gani looked like a little firecracker for all three rounds. Greg Gani won the championship title with a unaminous decision winning all three rounds. Once Greg started throwing punches he never stopped. Congratulations goes out to Greg for his first boxing title.

Blane Wallace, 8 years old fighting out of Carthage for D-Rocks Gym in the 70 pound bantam novice division for the championship title against Anthony Rios fighting out of Azteca boxing club. This was both fighters first boxing match in a natoinal tournament. Wallace seemed to control the fight with an impressive left jab that he kept in the face of Rios all three rounds. It looked like a win for Wallace but the hometown judges saw it differently. The crowd did not seem to agree with the judges. Rios won with a split decision. Both boxers fought there heart out and gave it all they had.

Ruben Delatorre 16 years old fighting out of Marshall for D-Rocks Gym in the 154 pound senior division was not allowed to fight for medical reasons. Ruben got a medal for a second place finish.

Justin [J-Rock] Krantz fighting for the 13 to14 year old intermediate 101 pound championship title fought his second match of the tournament on Sunday afternoon against Renaldo Castanella this match went all three rounds in a very close fight. Renaldo won with a split decision.
