Marshall’s D-Rocks Gym sent eight students to compete at the 72nd annual East Texas Golden Gloves Tournament at the Patriot Center at the University of Texas-Tyler last weekend.

Fifteen-year-old Justin Krantz won the senior 119-pound open division title against Hansel Blas of the Scorpions boxing club. Krantz won all three rounds in a solid performance of boxing skills on his way to the title.

Nine-year-old Blane Wallace captured the Novice Bantam weight 75-pound division against Jonathon Vasquez of East Texas Boxing. Wallace dominated all three rounds on the way to his title and also won awards for Most Improved and Outstanding Novice Boxer.

Seventeen-year-old Rueban Dellatorre finished in second place after losing a tough match to Deondre Smith of Troup Boxing Club in the Men’s Senior Division. Smith also defeated 20-year-old Robbie Geisleman in the men’s senior division, as Geisleman finished in third place.

Fifteen-year-old Cameron Perez lost a close match against Juan Hurtado from the East Texas Boxing Club in the senior 145-pound division. Seventeen-year-old Roberto Dellatorre, 12-year-old Andres Acuna and 10-year-old Greg Gani didn’t get matched for a fight but were prepared to do so if called upon.

The D-Rocks Gym boxing team has been training hard for this tournament and will be ready for next month’s event according to Coach Doug Krantz.

Derrick “D-Rock” Krantz will be fighting on March 16 at the Horseshoe Riverdome in Shreveport for the Bellator Fighting Championships against Louisiana’s Eric Scallan (9-3).

Tickets are on sale at D-Rocks Gym or Patterson Dodge, and anyone who is interested in joining the boxing team can call (903) 934-8265.
